PENGAWASAN DAN PENGENDALIAN TIKUS SEBAGAI UPAYA PENCEGAHAN RISIKO PENYAKIT ZOONOSIS DI LINGKUNGAN INDUSTRI

Abstract

Rats are the primary reservoir for various zoonotic diseases threatening workers in industrial environments, including leptospirosis, hantavirus, and plague. Industrial settings such as food processing plants, warehouses, and production areas provide ideal conditions for rat population growth due to food availability, nesting sites, and inadequate sanitation. This study aims to examine rat surveillance and population control strategies as preventive measures against zoonotic disease risk in industrial environments through a literature review approach. Results indicate that Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches encompassing environmental sanitation, rodent-proofing, active monitoring, and targeted use of traps and rodenticides are proven effective in suppressing rat populations. Implementation of comprehensive rat control programs, combined with personal protective equipment (PPE) use and occupational health surveillance, represents the best strategy for minimizing zoonotic disease transmission risk in the industrial sector.
