Abstract

Erosion is the process of soil particle detachment and transport caused by natural agents such as water and wind, as well as by human activities. This study analyzes the erosion hazard level in the Dara'ua Sub-Watershed, Alasa District, North Nias Regency, to determine the magnitude of the erosion hazard occurring in the area. This research is a quantitative study employing a descriptive approach and Geographic Information System (GIS)-based spatial analysis, using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and the Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR) methods. The USLE calculation yielded an erosion rate of 190.87 tons/ha/year, indicating a high potential for soil loss in the study area. Based on the erosion hazard classification, this value falls into the severe (heavy) erosion hazard class, so that conservation measures are required to reduce the erosion rate and prevent further land degradation. The estimated sediment yield from the study area was 29.20 tons/ha/year, indicating that only part of the eroded material is transported to the river body, while the remainder is deposited before reaching the stream flow.
