STUDI KASUS KESEHATAN MENTAL (DEPRESI) PADA PENYANDANG DISABILITAS MENTAL PASCA TERREHABILITASI DI SENTRA WIRAJAYA KOTA MAKASSAR

Abstract

Persons with mental disabilities following rehabilitation continue to experience various psychosocial challenges that may contribute to depressive symptoms, including family rejection, community stigma, limited social support, and difficulties in social reintegration. This study aimed to analyze mental health conditions, factors associated with depressive symptoms, their impact on social adaptation and independence, forms of support received, and coping strategies among persons with mental disabilities following rehabilitation at Sentra Wirajaya Makassar City. This study employed a qualitative method using a case study approach. The informants consisted of three rehabilitation service recipients, one rehabilitation officer, and one social worker. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive analysis model. The findings showed that rehabilitation improved emotional regulation, self confidence, communication skills, social functioning, and independence among rehabilitation service recipients. However, depressive symptoms remained associated with family rejection, community stigma, limited social support, and economic challenges. The recovery process was supported through medical and social rehabilitation, psychosocial assistance, vocational activities, peer support, spiritual guidance, medication adherence, and productive activities. This study concludes that rehabilitation at Sentra Wirajaya Makassar City contributes to improving mental health and social functioning among persons with mental disabilities. However, successful social reintegration requires strengthened family support, increased public education, and continuous efforts to reduce stigma.
