Abstract
This study aims to design sustainable fashion products made from textile waste by applying patchwork techniques as an effort to reuse environmentally friendly production leftovers. The creation of this work is motivated by the increasing pollution caused by textile waste and microplastics, particularly synthetic materials such as polyester from the fashion industry, which have an impact on the degradation of marine ecosystems and aquatic life. This condition highlights the importance of implementing more sustainable production and consumption systems in accordance with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Through the concept of sustainable fashion, this work adopts marine life motifs as a visual representation of environmental pollution issues as well as a medium for conveying ecological messages to the public. The patchwork technique is used to transform textile waste into fashion products that possess aesthetic, functional, and ecological values. This study employs a qualitative practice-led research method by collecting data through observation, exploration of textile waste types, patchwork techniques, and marine life motifs, as well as interviews with experts and prospective users. As a result, fashion functions not only as a visual product but also as a medium for environmental education and as an alternative form of more responsible and sustainable fashion products.
