Abstract
This study aimed to investigate students’ perceptions of using Kahoot and its effect on learning motivation in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. The study employed a qualitative descriptive research design involving 19 fourth-semester students of the English Language Education Program at the Islamic University of Riau. The data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 20 close-ended statements and one open-ended question. The close-ended responses were analyzed using percentages, while the open-ended responses were analyzed descriptively to identify emerging themes. The findings revealed that students generally had positive perceptions toward the use of Kahoot in English learning. Most respondents agreed that Kahoot made learning more enjoyable, interactive, and engaging. The competitive elements, rankings, and immediate feedback provided by Kahoot increased students’ motivation, enthusiasm, classroom participation, and engagement. Furthermore, students reported that Kahoot helped them understand English materials more effectively and reduced boredom during learning activities. Although several challenges were identified, including unstable internet connections and limited time to answer questions, students recommended the continued use of Kahoot in English classes. Overall, the findings indicate that Kahoot is an effective and motivating learning tool that enhances students’ learning experiences in EFL classrooms.
