Hubungan Pengetahuan tentang Kebersihan Gigi dan Mulut dengan Gingivitis pada Ibu Hamil di Puskesmas Guntung Manggis Banjarbaru

Abstract

The prevalence of oral health issues among pregnant women remains significant. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), the prevalence of oral health problems in South Kalimantan Province reached 57.7%, yet only 11.2% of those affected sought treatment at healthcare facilities. Data from the Guntung Manggis Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Banjarbaru revealed that out of 49 pregnant women, 21 (42.9%) suffered from gingivitis. This analytical study employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 49 pregnant women (total sampling). Data were collected via questionnaires to assess knowledge levels and through direct examinations using the Gingival Index to evaluate the severity of gingivitis. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. The study results indicate that the majority of pregnant women possess a poor level of knowledge, and a portion of the respondents suffer from mild gingivitis. The Chi-Square statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.00 (p < 0.05); therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, there is a relationship between knowledge regarding oral hygiene and gingivitis among pregnant women at the Guntung Manggis Community Health Center in Banjarbaru. It is recommended that pregnant women enhance their knowledge and awareness regarding oral hygiene maintenance, specifically through regular tooth brushing, a healthy diet, and dental check-ups during pregnancy.
