Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between fear of missing out and digital dependency among students of the Faculty of Psychology, Bhayangkara University, Jakarta Raya, class of 2023. The methodology used in this study was a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The total number of topics discussed in this study was 106 students, consisting of 16 men (15.1%) and 90 women (84.9%), with an average age of 21 years. The sample was taken using a probability sampling technique with a simple random sampling method. For data collection, the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOs) by (Wegmann et al., 2017) and the digital dependency scale (SMAS) created by (Al-Menayes, 2016) were used. Both of these measuring instruments have proven effective and consistent. Data analysis was carried out using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Test after the data met the assumption requirements. The findings of this study prove that there is a significant negative relationship between fear of missing out and dependency on social media users (r = -0.443; p < 0.001). These results demonstrate that high levels of fear of missing out on moments lead to lower levels of social media dependency. Conversely, low levels of fear of missing out on moments lead to higher levels of social media addiction among college students. This research is expected to serve as a foundation for further research examining other factors that may influence social media dependency among college students.References
