Abstract

Maternal parenting plays an important role in the development of preschool children, especially in shaping discipline, communication, independence, and children’s social relationships. This study aims to identify maternal parenting patterns among preschool children aged 4–6 years at TK Silo Naikoten 1 Kupang, as well as the factors and challenges in child parenting. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving mothers who have preschool-aged children. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative data analysis techniques according to Sugiyono (2019). The results showed that most mothers applied a balanced parenting style between firmness and affection through disciplinary habits, good communication, attention, and giving rules to children. Parenting patterns were influenced by family experience, education, social environment, occupation, and economic conditions. In addition, mothers also faced challenges such as limited time, work activities, and children’s behavior. Nevertheless, mothers continued to provide the best attention and education so that children could grow into independent, disciplined individuals with a good future.
