TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN MENGENAI VAKSIN HPV DI MAHASISWA NON-KESEHATAN DI WILAYAH DENPASAR

Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality among women and is primarily caused by infection with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV vaccination is an effective preventive measure; however, vaccination coverage in Indonesia remains relatively low. One of the factors influencing the success of HPV vaccination programs is the public's level of knowledge regarding the HPV vaccine. This study aimed to identify respondents' characteristics, assess the level of knowledge regarding the HPV vaccine, and examine the relationship between respondents' characteristics and their level of knowledge among non-health students in Denpasar City. This study employed a cross-sectional design using a purposive sampling technique involving 114 non-health students. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the respondents were predominantly aged 27–35 years (45.6%), male (55.3%), from the Faculty of Engineering (24.6%), had not received the HPV vaccine (69.3%), intended to receive HPV vaccination (56.1%), and had previously heard about the HPV vaccine (99.1%). Overall, the respondents demonstrated a good level of knowledge regarding the HPV vaccine. The highest percentage of correct responses was found for the question regarding the recommended number of HPV vaccine doses (96.9%), while the highest percentage of incorrect responses was observed for the question on cervical cancer treatment (60.5%). Chi-Square analysis revealed significant associations between age (p = 0.009), sex (p = 0.011), vaccination status (p = 0.019), and intention to receive HPV vaccination (p = 0.024) and the level of knowledge regarding the HPV vaccine. In contrast, faculty of study (p = 0.323) and prior exposure to information about the HPV vaccine (p = 0.166) were not significantly associated with the level of knowledge.
