Abstract
One of the most common psychological problems experienced by adolescents is aggressive behavior, which can negatively impact them and their social environment. Physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, and hostility are some forms of aggressive behavior. Authoritarian parenting, characterized by high control, strict demands for compliance, one-way communication, the use of punishment, and low emotional warmth in parent-child relationships, can contribute to adolescents' emotional and behavioral development, thus increasing the tendency to behave aggressively. The purpose of this study was to determine how authoritarian parenting impacts aggressive behavior exhibited by adolescents in Bekasi City. This study involved quantitative and survey methods. The study involved 104 adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years living in Bekasi City. Google Forms were used to collect data online. To measure the authoritarian parenting variable, a modified Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) was used to measure aggressive behavior variables. The JASP application version 0.97 was used to analyze the data using Pearson correlation and simple linear regression. There is a positive and significant relationship between authoritarian parenting and aggressive behavior (r = 0.417; p < 0.001). In addition, the results of the regression test showed that authoritarian parenting significantly influenced aggressive behavior (F = 21.452; p < 0.001), with a contribution of 17.4% (R2 = 0.174). These results indicate that authoritarian parenting styles applied by parents more often cause adolescents to behave aggressively. Therefore, to support the growth of positive adolescent behavior, more adaptive and communicative parenting styles must be considered.References
