Abstract
Music serves not only as a form of entertainment but may also influence listeners’ emotional states and subjective consciousness. This study aims to explore the relationship between the auditory characteristics of psychedelic music and the emergence of peak experiences from the perspective of transpersonal psychology. A literature review method was employed by examining relevant scientific articles and books retrieved from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and SINTA. The literature was selected based on its relevance to psychedelic music, altered states of consciousness, peak experiences, and self-transcendence. The data were analyzed using content analysis through data reduction, thematic classification, interpretation, and synthesis. The findings indicate that repetitive rhythms, nonlinear musical arrangements, spatial audio effects, and sound distortion may contribute to musical absorption, intense emotional responses, and changes in subjective perception. These experiences may reflect several characteristics of peak experiences, including altered time perception, a sense of connectedness, and a reduced awareness of personal boundaries. However, the available evidence remains insufficient to confirm that psychedelic music independently induces ego dissolution or produces clinical benefits. Further empirical and experimental studies are required to examine its underlying mechanisms and psychological effects more objectively.
