Abstract
The phenomenon of growing up without a father is gaining increasing attention because it can influence psychological development as well as how individuals view romantic relationships and marriage, particularly among Generation Z women. This study aims to describe perceptions of marriage among Generation Z women who grew up without a father. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method involving four participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis, and validated through member checking. The results indicate that the fatherless experience shapes perceptions of marriage through the experience of losing a father figure, the need for a sense of security, fear of repeating family experiences, and the hope of building healthier relationships. Participants interpreted marriage as a relationship requiring commitment, communication, responsibility, and mutual support, although some still harbored doubts about married life due to past experiences. This study concludes that the experience of growing up without a father shapes a complex perception of marriage, characterized by both concerns and hopes for achieving a healthy and harmonious marriage in the future.References
