Abstract
Based on a study of political corruption and its correlation with law and governance in modern states, this research aims to identify how political corruption is related to socio-political, socio-economic, socio-cultural, socio-juridical, and human rights dimensions. To obtain social relevance with juridical analysis, this study also analyzes strategies or policies to address the phenomenon of political corruption. Literature analysis and interviews with several experts possessing relevant scientific competence were the main foundation of this research in composing this dissertation. The correlation between variables based on data obtained from content and normative analysis is described. The phenomenon of legally prohibited corruption is also compared. An analysis of political corruption cases in several modern countries shows that this form of corruption has broader impacts than corruption committed by individuals who do not hold political power. Political corruption always seeks to maintain and extend the abuse of power, while the necessity of a socio-political order requires an equivalent control function in the exercise of power. Political corruption is correlated with human rights violations by heads of government, as it is closely linked to the desire to maintain and expand political power.
