PENGGUNAAN BAHASA INDONESIA SEBAGAI WUJUD BELA NEGARA DI KALANGAN GENERASI MUDA

Abstract

Indonesian is the national language and a symbol of national identity that unites all Indonesian people. It plays an important role in maintaining national unity and strengthening the sense of patriotism. In the midst of rapid social development, the use of the Indonesian language among the younger generation faces several challenges, such as the impact of globalization, the influence of popular culture, and the increasing use of foreign languages and informal language in daily communication. These conditions indicate that the use of the Indonesian language is not only related to communication but also serves as a way to implement the values of state defense (bela negara) through preserving and appreciating national identity. This study aims to examine the use of the Indonesian language as a form of state defense among the younger generation, identify the factors that influence its use, and explain various efforts to strengthen the use of the Indonesian language as part of the national identity. This study employed a qualitative approach using the library research method. The data were collected from national scientific journals published between 2021 and 2025, reference books, laws and regulations, and official documents related to the Indonesian language and state defense. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that using the Indonesian language properly and correctly in daily life is one form of supporting the nation. It reflects love for the homeland, strengthens national identity, and helps maintain national unity. The use of the Indonesian language is influenced by several factors, including family, school, peer groups, globalization, and social media. Therefore, the government, educational institutions, families, and society need to work together to strengthen young people’s awareness of using the Indonesian language as a way of implementing the values of state defense.
