TINDAK TUTUR ILOKUSI DAN DINAMIKA PERKEMBANGAN KARAKTER TOKOH MALEFICENT DALAM FILM MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL (2019)

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of illocutional speech, perlocution effects, and character development dynamics by the main character, Maleficent, in the film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019). Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study analyzes the development of the main character Maleficent which is depicted through the act of illocution speech and the effect of perlocution in Maleficent's social interaction. The theory used is Searle's (1979) speech theory which classifies the types of speech acts, and Austin's (1962) theory which is combined with Searle to distinguish and explain the effects of perlocution that arise. The data collection technique used is the uninvolved conversation observation (simak bebas cakap) to understand speech in film dialogue. The results of this study show that there are 61 data on speech and illocution; 20 assertive speech, 23 directive speech, 5 commissive speech, 13 expressive speech. The speech is divided into three phases of Maleficent's character development, namely the protective phase, the conflict phase, and the reconciliation phase. The results show that the act of illocution speech is closely related to character development because the speech of characters like Maleficent reflects the intentions and intentions behind her speech, which over time changes and encourages the transformation of her attitude throughout the film.
