PELAKSANAAN ATURAN LARANGAN NIKAH SASUKU (STUDI DI NAGARI PANDAM GADANG KEC. GUNUANG OMEH, KAB. LIMA PULUH KOTA)

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of customary regulations regarding the prohibition of marriage between individuals of the same clan sasuku in Nagari Pandam Gadang, Gunuang Omeh District. It aims to describe the specific rules of this prohibition and the legal consequences arising from such marriages in the area. This is a descriptive qualitative study. Informants were selected based on their ability to provide necessary data identified through prior information and data collection was conducted via interviews, observation, and document analysis. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The collected data were analyzed through the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion/verification. The results indicate that marriage between members of the same clan in Nagari Pandam Gadang is prohibited because the parties share a lineage known as keselarasan bungo satangkai. If individuals from the three nagari Suliki, Kurai, and Pandam Gadang insist on such a marriage, they face expulsion from the nagari until they pay a fine consisting of 100 kilograms of buffalo meat; the offenders must parade the buffalo to the balai (communal hall) and surrender it to the ampek suku (representatives of the four clans) of Pandam Gadang. The consequences of sasuku marriage include social and customary sanctions, which impact the mental well being of the couple, their extended families, and their respective clans.
