Former prisoners represent one of the most vulnerable groups facing social exclusion after release, yet a systematic bibliometric mapping of global research on this topic from a social welfare perspective has never been conducted. This study aims to map research trends on social exclusion among former prisoners through a bibliometric analysis based on Google Scholar data retrieved via Publish or Perish, covering the period from 2016 to 2026. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) method was applied for article selection, and VOSviewer version 1.6.20 was used for keyword co-occurrence network visualization. Out of 995 articles initially identified, 467 articles met the eligibility criteria after undergoing identification, screening, and manual eligibility stages. The analysis produced a keyword network comprising 23 items distributed across 5 clusters with 234 links and a total link strength of 2,069. Social exclusion and ex-offender were confirmed as the most dominant keywords, while the five clusters formed reflect the dimensions of rehabilitation, reintegration barriers, lived experience of prisoners, sociological context, and the role of community. The most significant finding is the near-complete absence of social welfare and social work perspectives from the existing literature landscape, alongside the limited representation of digital dimensions and developing country contexts such as Indonesia. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for developing a more targeted social welfare research agenda and strengthening social reintegration policies for former prisoners in Indonesia.
