Abstract

The mobile game industry is one of the fastest-growing subsectors of Indonesia's creative economy and has significant potential to contribute to national economic development. Despite the continuous growth in the number of mobile game players in Indonesia, the market share of locally developed mobile games remains considerably lower than that of foreign games. This condition indicates a gap between the market potential and the low adoption rate of local mobile games. This study examines the effects of hedonic motivation, social influence, and game features on the intention to play local mobile games using a quantitative approach through an online survey involving 205 respondents. Data were analyzed using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB SEM) with AMOS 23 software. The results indicate that social influence has a positive and significant effect on both hedonic motivation and the intention to play local mobile games. Game features also have a positive and significant effect on the intention to play local mobile games. However, hedonic motivation does not have a significant effect on the intention to play local mobile games. These findings suggest that prospective players' intention to play local mobile games is influenced more by external factors, such as social influence and game characteristics, than by anticipated enjoyment. This study thus recommends local mobile game developers to prioritize the development of game features that align with player preferences and optimize community-based marketing strategies and social recommendations to increase prospective players' intention to play.
