Abstract
This study aims to explore the resilience of a fatherless only child with a broken home background, using the resilience theory of Reivich and Shatte (2002). The research employed a qualitative approach with a single case study design. The subject is A, a 21-year-old female university student who is an only child and has grown up without a father figure since the age of 5. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews guided by seven resilience components: emotion regulation, impulse control, causal analysis, empathy, self-efficacy, optimism, and reaching out. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). Results indicate that the subject demonstrates strong resilience in five components (emotion regulation, causal analysis, empathy, self-efficacy, and optimism), while impulse control and reaching out remain vulnerable. The mother figure serves as the central protective factor across all components. This study contributes to the understanding of relational resilience in fatherless only children and recommends the expansion of social support networks as a key intervention target.References
